Today I have taken role of arm chair economist giving gyaan on most beloved topic of Indian economists.
Some keeps saying that rural economy will be next driver of growth for Indian economy and they keep showing improvements in connectivity or electrification with Indian villages. Some even go to socialist approach to boost rural economy.
The main point of writing this post is, I think urban and rural economies are tightly coupled. If we need to achieve next big push for Indian economy, we have to give necessary attention to both. If cities are blooming, amount of money sent to villages are bound to grow. If there is good monsoon and good harvest, money flows from villages to urban real estates. Our urban cities are largely dependent on migrant workers. If govt just attend to rural area's and keep those migrant workers under mnrega kind of scheme, then city businesses depending on them will fall or have labor shortage. Why would anyone leave home if they are getting money from govt. Plus this will add more strain on fiscal. Instead, Govt should supports rural businesses, giving loans to entrepreneurs, making godowns/cold storages, etc which will give sustainable economic growth to the rural communities.
In short, we don't want one economy growing at expense of other.
