Margin Call

Recently I asked on Twitter for stock market related movies. Well, I have been already adding those in my watchlist on IMDB. So, I finally picked up 'Margin Call' from watchlist.

This movie is about initial days of 2008 financial crisis, how one firm did firesale of securities in one day. Nice story showing morale gray area of people working in Investment banks, along with amazing cast and dialogues. Interesting thing I found on IMDB trivia page is script was written in just four days and film was shot in 17 days. I think that's enough for film whose story span for about 24 hours. This film points out how people from other field (rocket scientist) comes to the wall street for big money. How people give their life to the firm (when actress asks how many kids do you have). How traders who did firesale as well as people who did nothing and sat in the room, still received compensation. How CEO with questionable morality decide to dump positions on others. He explains there are only 3 ways to make money here 'be first, be smart or cheat'. How greed lead to the such crashes in past and still asking other actor to continue to work for him. It really crazy when top management guys asks to explain in English indicating that even they didn't understood what position they were holding (or maybe it was added in script to explain subject to the normal movie goers).

Anyways, nice movie. Time well spent. Thanks to the people who recommended it.
